Japan’s Edo period.

Many of the buildings
along the main street
are geisha houses
which are still a feature
of Higashi Chaya’s night life.
If you visit Higashi Chaya
in the evening
you may even encounter
geishas on the street.

The side streets also offer
a bit of sightseeing
on a smaller scale.
